Masindi District council has unanimously approved a UGX 99 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, marking a significant increase from the initial projected estimates of UGX 35.4 billion.
The approval was made during a council sitting held last week on Friday at the district headquarters after the district received additional funding allocations through the second budget call circular.
While presenting the budget estimates, Secretary for Finance Pamela Nyakato explained that the district's initial indicative planning figures stood at UGX 35,406,871,935,but later rose to UGX 99,006,682,000 following supplementary government allocations.
Nyakato revealed that the largest share of the budget, amounting to UGX 58 billion, has been earmarked for the construction of Masindi General Hospital,a project expected to strengthen healthcare service delivery in the district.
She added that UGX 525 million has been allocated to tourism development as part of efforts to boost the sector's contribution to the local economy.
According to the approved estimates, the district will also receive UGX 100 million as a new planning grant, while the health sector has been allocated UGX 81.1 million under the sector conditional grant for development.
The budget further provides UGX 201.9 million for pension and gratuity payments, alongside UGX 166.3 million to clear salary arrears.
Council members welcomed the increased funding, describing it as a major opportunity to improve service delivery and accelerate development across key sectors in the district.
