Newly elected leaders in Masindi District have completed a two-day induction training aimed at strengthening their understanding of local government structures,roles and responsibilities to improve service delivery and accountability.

The training,held at the Masindi District headquarters,brought together district councillors,security officials and technical staff to enhance their capacity to effectively execute their mandates under the decentralization policy.

Speaking after facilitating the training,the Research Officer at the Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment(ACODE),Walter Akena,said the organisation is committed to strengthening the capacity of local governments to ensure they deliver quality services to citizens.

Akena explained that the induction focused on the background and objectives of decentralization,the importance of local governments in promoting development,and the specific mandates and responsibilities of elected leaders.

He noted that equipping leaders with the necessary knowledge would enable them to make informed decisions,exercise effective oversight and respond better to the needs of their communities.

Representing the Chief Administrative Officer,the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer,Jane Akiror,welcomed the initiative,describing it as timely for newly elected leaders.

Akiror urged the councillors to apply the knowledge acquired during the training by providing effective oversight,upholding accountability and serving with integrity to promote the development of Masindi District.

The induction is expected to strengthen collaboration between Political leaders,technical officers and security agencies,ultimately improving governance and enhancing service delivery across the District.
